Experience the power and majesty when orchestra and chorus united in a concert of profound drama, radiant beauty and spiritual inspiration. The concert features the electrifying Dies Irae from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s unfinished Requiem, one of the most dramatic and recognizable works in the choral repertoire along with the theme Christopher Tin composed for the video game ‘Civilization VI’ and Poulenc’s exuberant Gloria, a masterpiece that combines reverence, lyricism and sparkling wit. The concert concludes with Make Our Garden Grow from Candide, Bernstein’s musical reminder that we do live in “the best of all possible worlds”.
FD Choral Society is one of the oldest community groups performing fine choral literature in Iowa. Fort Dodge Choral Society was organized in the spring of 1968, by individuals who were interested in providing an opportunity for the study and performance of challenging sacred and secular choral music compositions, to participate in the rich cultural environment of the community.
FDCS frequently collaborates with area ensembles and organizations, including Jive for Five! brass quintet, the music faculty at Drake University, and the Fort Dodge Area Symphony. Other area collaborations include work with the Fort Dodge Comedia Musica Players, the King Ringers handbell choir, and children’s choirs from Fort Dodge’s public and parochial schools. As part of its mission to promote musical excellence in the Fort Dodge area, the society has commissioned and debuted choral works from a variety of composers.
Admission is by season membership or individual concert ticket (FDCS Collaborative Concert Ticket $12) available for purchase at the door. Students & children (with an adult) are always welcomed free of charge at Symphony performances.
