Continuing the tradition of providing quality music since its founding in 1949, the Fort Dodge Area Symphony presents its 2012-13 concert season and is pleased to announce that Akira Mori, the conductor of the Drake University Symphony Orchestra, is the new musical director and conductor. The first concert on October 14 will feature Horn Concerto No. 1 by Richard Strauss and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2 “Little Russian.” The featured guest artist will be the principal French Horn player of the Minnesota Orchestra, Michael Gast.

A guest choir and four guest soloists for a new expanded Messiah Sing-a-Long will highlight the traditional holiday concert on December 2.

The third conert on March 3 will include two compositions by Dvorak, his Slavonic Dance No. 1 and his Symphony No. 8. In addition, special guest soloist, Dr. Ashley Sidon, will perform Lalo’s Cello Concerto.

The annual Young Artists Concert on April 21 will end the concert season with performances by the winners of the Young Artists competition.
